October Update

Dear friends,

In August, I shared Kevin's story and asked you to consider supporting his medical care as he battles a severe and complex medical condition (CIDP). Many of you made generous contributions which enabled us to provide for his healthcare. We are so grateful! As I mentioned in our last newsletter, Kevin was in a life-threatening condition when we were able to finally get him the care he needed in August. His treatment had an incredible effect and he actually regained mobility in his entire body. Within a couple weeks he was even able to take a few steps...something he had not done for ten months. He and his family were ecstatic. His condition is an autoimmune disease and so we were aware that he might relapse. Unfortunately, this did happen, but thanks to your support we were able to help him return to the hospital for additional treatments. His condition is a particularly complex and resistant case of CIDP so it is definitely proving challenging for his care team, but they continue to work towards improving his complex case. Please keep Kevin in your prayers, and you haven't yet, please consider making a donation on his behalf. He is a fighter with a strong spirit despite the physical debilitation and suffering he has endured this past year. He believes God has a plan for his future and is working through the the team of people fighting for his healing...his family, his medical team, and each of you. His parents have been his champions throughout this challenging year. They are so grateful that your generosity has saved their son's life. On behalf of the entire Arita family, I humbly ask for your prayers and support and thank you again for being a light for Kevin.

Meanwhile, on the education front, our scholars continue to work hard and succeed. Their school year is drawing to a close and they can look forward to their winter break in December. Some of our university scholars are getting close to completing their classroom studies and entering into a stage of practicums which will prepare them for their future jobs. Because of your support they will graduate college and be able to find meaningful employment, breaking the cycle of poverty. We don't have any high school scholars who are seniors this year, but we do have juniors who hope renew their scholarships in 2025 and complete their high school degrees, beating the odds in their community. In Honduras, only 31% of students graduate high school. The rate is far lower in the rural communities where most of our students live. Because of you, the story is changing in the communities we serve. We cannot wait to see what our students accomplish as they enter professions and universities. Our small nonprofit continues to have a ripple effect, inspiring more students each year to apply to our program. Because of your generosity, we have always been able to renew scholarships for eligible students. If you aren't yet a monthly donor, I ask that you consider sponsoring a student so that we can continue to sponsor our current scholars in 2025 and, hopefully, accept new students. Since we are a 100% volunteer-run organization with almost no overhead, you can be assured that your donations directly benefit the patients like Kevin and the students who so deeply appreciate your support.

If you haven't yet become a monthly supporter, I encourage you to consider doing so today! We are so grateful for your support,

In Christ our Light,

Anna Gagnet

Our scholars study and serve!

Katy Ortiz is a junior in high school studying pre-nursing. Recently she has been volunteering as tutor to younger children and helped with Dengue prevention in her community. Raking leaves and treating pilas (water containers used for washing) helps kill/prevent mosquito reproduction. Way to go Katy!

Erick, Jefferson and Juan David help fumigate mosquitoes, participate in class projects and paint a classroom!

Arianny (10th grade) studies in her, tropical home, completes school projects, and tutors.

College students Lidia, Lorena, Maday and Melquisadek attend class, academic fairs, and work in the lab.
